In response to the ongoing surge in fuel pricing across Australia, RV Transport Australia Pty Ltd has implemented a transparent fuel levy to fairly reflect the real cost of fuel at the time of transport. Fuel is one of the largest operating costs in road transport, and significant price fluctuations directly impact our ability to deliver reliable service. Rather than absorbing unpredictable fuel costs into a fixed rate, our fuel levy ensures pricing remains fair, accurate, and clearly understood by our clients.
Fuel Levy Calculation Method
Our pricing model assumes a diesel base rate of $1.45 per litre.
Fuel represents approximately 22% of the total transport cost.
The weekly average diesel price is sourced from Business Insider.
Fuel levy is recalculated every Monday based on the weekly average diesel price.
Fuel Levy Formula
(Current Weekly Average Fuel Price - Base Fuel Price) / Base Fuel Price = Percentage Change
This percentage is then multiplied by the fuel weighting of 22% of the total freight cost to determine the applicable fuel surcharge.
Example Calculation
If current weekly average Diesel Price = $2.16
Base Fuel Price = $1.45
Current Standard Rate = $2310 (inc GST)
Step 1: Calculate percentage increase in fuel price
($2.16 - $1.45) / $1.45 = 0.4897 or 48.97%
Step 2: Apply fuel weighting (22% of transport cost)
48.97% x 22% = 0.1077 or 10.77%
Step 3: Apply fuel surcharge
$2310.00 × 10.77% = $248.79
Final Transport Rate
$2310.00 + $248.79 = $2558.79 (inc GST)
